The primary mission of the Training Division of the Clifton Police Department is to provide exemplary training to all sworn and civilian personnel employed within the Department. The training begins upon initial hiring and continues throughout an employee’s career. The Department provides hands-on training as well as computer-based training. In addition to meeting the training needs of the Department, the Training Division is also responsible for a large variety of additional tasks which are necessary to keep the Department operational. The Division consists of one Commander, one Training Officer, one Range Master, and one Civilian TAC/Clerk.

  • Orientation and Initial Training of Newly Hired Officers/Personnel
  • Oversight of the Field Training Officer Program for New Officers
  • Semi-Annual Firearms Re-Qualifications
  • Mandatory Training Required by Attorney General Guidelines
    • Use of Force
    • Vehicular Pursuits
    • Domestic Violence
    • Bloodborne Pathogens/Hazmat/Right to Know
  • Researching/Scheduling of Classes offered outside the Department
  • Maintaining Accurate and Thorough Department Training Records

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the Clifton Special Police
  • Liaison to the Clifton Health Department
  • Supervision/Oversight of all Departmental NCIC/CJIS Operations
  • Management of the Alcotest 7110 MKIII-C Instrument
  • Liaison to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office
  • Department Naloxone Coordinator
  • Oversight of the Department’s involvement in the Federal1033 Program
  • Maintenance of Department Supplies/Equipment
