The Traffic Division is comprised of uniformed police officers, school traffic guards, and parking enforcement officers whose collective purpose is to maintain or improve traffic safety throughout the City. The assigned personnel each serve an important function that contributes to this goal.
Traffic personnel are responsible for:
- Enforcing violations of traffic laws
- Investigating all serious motor vehicle crashes
- Educating school-aged children on traffic safety
- Reviewing and approving handicap space applications
- Processing NJ MVC Temporary Handicap placards
- Analyzing traffic-related complaints for suitable solutions
- Developing traffic control plans for special events (parades, street fairs, etc.)
- Staffing our Clifton Adult School Crossing Guards who ensure school-aged children walk to school safely
- Staffing our Clifton Parking Enforcement Officers who enforce the City’s many parking ordinances which include: street cleaning, bus stop, timed parking, and permit parking
